After 100 million pairs sold, the Stan Smith is easily one of the most world’s most recognizable sneakers.

It’s also easy to spot: a clean white-leather upper with just a flash of bright green on the heel and tongue.

But even small changes can have outsized impacts on the look and feel of a shoe.

The new Stan Smith SQ is no exception.

Quietly released by Adidas, the new version of the iconic ’60s tennis shoe features all the hallmarks of the OG.

There’s the white sole, uniform upper and classic Stan Smith logo on the tongue, printed in signature green.

But it takes on a sculpted square toe à la some cowboy boots and dress shoes for a completely different vibe to the original.

Availability and pricing

While the makeover runs the risk of turning away purists who associate Adidas’s best-selling shoe with a soft rounded toe, it hasn’t appeared to affect the Stan Smith’s popularity.

Within days of its release, the $130 shoe has completely sold through all launch inventory.
