Uniqlo just stocked the latest iteration of its Ultra Warm Down Coat, which also happens to be one of, if not the most expensive, items the affordable fast-fashion retailer offers.
It’s available in two new colors alongside the classic black, and it builds on the success of previous versions while maintaining an aggressive price that still undercuts most high-end alternatives by a wide margin.
Here’s what you need to know.
Mimicking a luxury outerwear icon

No fashion house can claim credit for inventing the parka. That distinction belongs to the Inuit and other indigenous peoples living in the polar regions of the globe.
However, in the modern era, brands like Canada Goose are responsible for transforming the outerwear workhorse into a luxury status symbol.
Which is why it’s probably not by accident that the Uniqlo Ultra Warm Down Coat resembles a Canada Goose jacket, particularly the Langford Parka (and Heritage version), which starts at $1,475. This is fast fashion after all.

Both feature the signature long parka silhouette, removable fur-trimmed hoods (in the case of the Heritage Langford), sleeker profiles, and similar pocket configurations that have become synonymous with serious cold-weather gear designed for city life.
Still, dismissing the piece as a mere luxury knockoff is also selling the jacket short.
