Anyone with an interest in audio knows of the Bang & Olufsen 3200, a sliding glass bookshelf-monolith that succeeded in not only producing great sound but also, subtly jabbing upon its onlookers by saying, “my owner has more money than you” (for better or worse). The BeoSound 1 continues in that tradition by quietly humbling owners of Bose SoundDock’s the world over. Functioning as a portable music system (CD, Radio and iPod via cable), the BeoSound 1 is essentially a movable loudspeaker system with 12W of power (55-20,000Hz) and a central woofer.
As you’d come to expect from B&O, it has a party trick: the antenna and CD holder rise up at the press of a button. More importantly, we found that it puts money where its speaker is and emits a broad room-filling sound with no shortage of the coveted midrange. You shouldn’t purchase the BeoSound 1 looking for managamous bass, but it’s certainly present. The BeoSound 1 is available with a variety of colored anodized aluminum grills to match any interior. We, recommend orange and a big year-end bonus.
