DTS’s Play-Fi is arguably the best known wireless streaming technology other than Sonos. With Play-Fi you can mix and match a number of different speakers together — from manufacturers like McIntosh, Definitive Technology, Klipsch, Pioneer and Rotel (see the full list here) — in one multi-room system. Sonos speakers, on the other hand, can only play with other Sonos speakers.
Today, DTS announced the availability of its Alexa-enabled speakers: the Pioneer Elite Smart Speaker F4, Onkyo Smart Speaker P3 and the Phorus PS10. The three speakers are essentially competitors to the Sonos One, allowing you to use Alexa voice commands to play music on your high-end home speaker system. Previously, you could pair a Play-Fi speaker system with an Amazon Echo, Dot or Show, but those Amazon speakers wouldn’t play with the other Play-Fi speakers. These new Play-Fi and Alexa-enabled speakers will. If you want an Alexa-enabled speaker to add to your home’s Play-Fi multi-room speaker system, these are the ones you want.
