Voltaic, a solar tech company best known for its solar-powered backpacks and bags, as well as its small solar panels, just released the V88 Portable Laptop Battery, which has a huge 24,000 mAh battery capacity and supports USB-C Power Delivery. According to the company, it’s capable of fully recharging a laptop once over, as well as re-juicing your smartphone 7x over.
For me, the standout feature of the V88 Portable Laptop Battery is its size and price. At just $119 (or $129 on Amazon), it’s way more affordable with almost the same capacity as the 25,600mAh Sherpa 100AC by Goal Zero ($300) that I reviewed this past summer. It also weighs 1.5 pounds, which is lighter than the two-pound Sherpa 100AC.
I haven’t tried out the V88, but it looks a good deal. It’s not that expensive and it’s capable of fully charging my MacBook Pro. The company says that it’s “optimized for solar charging,” which simply means that it’s able to charge Voltaic’s solar-powered backpacks and solar panels. The last thing worth mentioning, like with the Sherpa 100AC, is that even though it’s really powerful, the V88 still falls within the FAA’s carry-on limit for a battery – so you should no trouble packing this in your carry-on bag.
