Not currently available for civilian use (check back around the end of the Mayan calendar or a city under Martial Law nearest you), the Motorola’s LEX 700 Mission Critical Handheld puts military-grade situational awareness and command and control into the hands of first responders.

With the LEX 700, police, emergency medical services, and firefighters benefit from a shared operational view of an incident through high-quality streaming video, hardware-accelerated 3D graphics and a high-resolution four inch touch-screen. Personnel can “see” other field assets’ positions using up-to-the-minute GPS location information and develop on-the-fly courses of action through real-time whiteboarding for a coordinated response. By accessing intel enroute, back-up units can augment shared video and photos from first responders with a history of similar incidents and specific information regarding the incident environment.

For police, that means knowing the threat level or prior similar crimes for a given area. For firefighters, it might be intelligence about dangerous hazardous/toxic/explosive materials that jeopardize life safety. The LEX 700 seamlessly interfaces with Motorola radios too, leaving you guessing whether that’s a soccer mom comparing prices or an undercover cop scoping out the closest donut shop surveilling you.
