It was only a few months back at the Mobile World Congress that HTC unveiled the HTC One X as a new standard bearer for the company and its streamlined “One” branding. Now, the firm has announced an augmented version of that flagship, the One X+, which looks as if it’s downed more than few mysterious pills from the resident trainer in the gym locker room. Specifically, the new phone boasts an improved 1.7GHz Tegra 3 processor (versus the original’s 1.5GHz), a bigger 2,100mAH battery, an upgraded 1.6MP front-facing camera and 64GB of storage. It’ll also ship with Android 4.1 (a.k.a Jelly Bean) and features an exclusive matte black polycarbonate unibody design. Otherwise, there’s still the same class leading 4.7-inch 1280 x 720 Super LCD 2 display, 1GB of RAM, an 8MP rear shooter, Beats Audio, NFC, and upcoming Playstation Certification. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, right?
We’ll never dismiss noteworthy improvements to an already fantastic device, but the Gorilla looming over this refreshing success is clearly cost. The current One X sells for a cool hundo with a two-year contract stateside, and apparently isn’t going anywhere; so if this phone’s price is right (i.e. under two hundred bucks), consumers could have a deal so sweet they might finally spare some change for Bob Barker’s pet precious procedures. As of now, though, the money question is still up in the air — as is a solid release date. The U.K. can at least expect to see something “in the next few weeks”.
