One of the most well-known names in the tech accessory space, Mophie has just released a clever new desk companion that could be the best home charging solution for Apple’s AirPods lineup yet.

The new Max Headphone Charging Stand is designed with Apple’s entire AirPods ecosystem in mind—but it shines brightest when paired with the company’s premium over-ear headphones, the AirPods Max.

Cutting the Cord

The stand’s most compelling feature is its ability to “wirelessly” charge the AirPods Max. To be clear, wireless here doesn’t mean MagSafe or Qi-style induction charging. Instead, it simply means you can finally say goodbye to the daily hassle of fumbling with a USB-C cable.

Mophie’s solution relies on a small magnetic dongle that clicks into the headphones’ USB-C port (more on that later).

Once attached, the AirPods Max can be placed on the stand, where magnets snap everything into alignment and begin charging. An LED indicator light illuminates when the connection is live, giving you instant peace of mind that your cans are topped up.

But Mophie went a step further and solved another one of the AirPods Max’s longest-standing quirks. Typically, the headphones only enter low-power sleep mode when placed inside Apple’s infamous “purse-like” case.

The Max Headphone Charging Stand replicates that trigger automatically, so your headphones don’t just charge—they rest properly too, as The Verge notes.

The stand’s design doesn’t ignore your other Apple gear, either. Its base also includes a Qi-compatible pad, perfect for inserting a pair of AirPods, AirPods Pro, or an iPhone. Mophie says the stand can charge both devices simultaneously.

For anyone already juggling multiple Apple audio products, this desk upgrade makes daily charging much more seamless.

A Few Missed Opportunities

Despite this bounty of valuable features, Mophie’s stand falls short of charging perfection in a few key ways.

The stand only works with the latest USB-C-equipped AirPods Max, so if you’re still rocking an older pair with a Lightning port (like me), you’re out of luck.

There’s also a limitation with the Qi pad. While it’s still convenient, it doesn’t currently support Qi2.2 or even Qi2 support – the latest and fastest wireless charging standards. That means you won’t get the fastest charging speeds many modern devices support, which holds the stand back from being the truly all-in-one charging dream.

The Mophie Max Headphone Charging Stand is $150 and is now available directly from Mophie. As with many of Mophie’s premium accessories, it comes with a two-year warranty.

For AirPods Max owners frustrated with Apple’s clumsy case or just looking to streamline their desk setup, this is arguably the most compelling new accessory on the market today.
