An Indie Watch Brand Releases a Retro Diver with Modern Performance

Using a special case design, the Aqua Compressor can dive up to 300 meters.

In just a couple years, British brand Farer has made a name for itself by offering colorful, vintage-inspired mechanical watches at reasonable prices. Previously that ethos was manifested in its three-hander and GMT models but now the brand is expanding its lineup with a new series of dive watches.

Like the rest of Farer’s lineup, the Aqua Compressor Automatic takes on a decidedly old-school look. It has a “super compressor” case, featuring an internal rotating bezel and two crowns (one to set the time and the other to move the aforementioned bezel). While it’s an aesthetic choice that mirrors the construction of many divers made during the ’60s and ’70s, it serves a functional purpose, too: The super compressor case design operates under the principle that when water pressure is applied to the case, it compresses the gaskets making them more water-tight, thus making the watch more water resistant as it dives further. With that, Farer claims the Aqua Compressor is water resistant to 300 meters.

Inside the watch ticks away an ETA 2824 automatic movement, while three dial and bezel designs are available, all echoing Farer’s bold, colorful aesthetic. The watch comes with both a steel bracelet and a rubber strap and can be ordered directly from Farer’s website for a reasonable $1,295.
