Summer is a great time to be a watch enthusiast. You can let your hair down by embracing bigger cases, playing with color and strapping a more comfortable material to your wrist. And sure enough, IWC’s new summertime limited edition is a picture-perfect embodiment of that warm-weather trifecta.
The new Portugieser Yacht Club Summer Edition is not the slim, minimalist Portugieser Chronograph we all know and love, but rather a larger, sportier take on the iconic chronograph that comes in at 43.5mm in diameter and 14.2mm thick. That beefy, stainless steel housing packs IWC’s Caliber 89361, an in-house automatic chronograph with a flyback function, allowing the wearer to record multiple times in succession without having to reset the chronograph altogether. The whole package is rated water-resistant to 60 meters.
Of course, this being a summer-ready piece, it’s decked out in blue, arguably the best watch color for the season. The metallic blue dial is complemented by red and white accents, and a very comfortable-looking blue rubber strap completes the aesthetic.
