Omega’s been the official timekeeper for the Olympics for decades, and that means that every summer and winter game, there’s a bevy of limited edition pieces made to celebrate. Unwilling to waste any time, Omega has already launched its first set of Olympic watches for the 2020 games in Tokyo: a quintet of Speedmasters.
Based on the venerable Speedmaster Professional, the limited edition maintains many of the specs and features watch enthusiasts are familiar with: a 42mm case, Omega’s Caliber 1861 hand-winding chronograph, and a tachymeter bezel, to name a few. The differences come in the form of five colorways inspired by the hues of the five Olympic rings: there’s a blue-and-white dial variant, a gold-trimmed version representing yellow, a panda dial representing black, a reference with a green tachymeter bezel and a red bezel version as well.
Here’s the rub: in addition to being limited edition pieces, they’re reserved only for Japan, though there are certain ways around tthis. Each colorway will be produced in a run of 2,020 examples and, if you’re a very high-rolling Olympics and watch fan, you can buy all five in one box (55 sets will be made available). The watches will start at $6,115 (680,400 yen) and will go up to $7,570 (842,400 yen) for the gold-trimmed pieces.
