Among a range of products from clothing to speakers and turntables meant to help bring American manufacturing back to Detroit, Shinola’s watches have been a modern success story. Having begun with quartz movements, they slowly began to offer Swiss mechanical movements in response to consumer demand. Now, the brand’s flagship design, the Shinola Runwell with its signature wire lugs and retro design, is finally equipped with an automatic movement — and it’s what a lot of fans have been hoping for.
The new Shinola Runwell Automatic is available in a 38.5mm and a large 45mm steel case versions, both with a water-resistance of 50m. They are powered by the popular Sellita SW200-1 automatic movement with a power reserve of 38 hours, and a small window at the caseback provides a view to the movement’s oscillating balance wheel and lightning bolt-decorated rotor. The movements are Swiss, but the watches are assembled in Shinola’s Detroit factory. Available in blue, black, and white dial versions, the Shinola Runwell Automatic will have a price of $1,095 on various leather strap options and $1,295 on a steel bracelet.
