Introduced only in 2018, the Seiko Prospex line of dive watches intended as a modern reinterpretation of the vintage reference 6159-7001 watch doesn’t even have a “nickname” — yet. This hasn’t, however, curbed its popularity or slowed the pace of new versions and dial colors, easily keeping up with its “Turtle,” “Samurai,” and other monikered dive watch siblings. The newest one is being teased by Seiko USA, called only the “SPB105,” and it looks killer with a green dial and gold-toned highlights.
Green is quietly having a moment in the watch industry, and it has been proven to match well with bronze and gold hues — much like the colorway the brand interprets as “Summer” in Grand Seiko’s recent US-only “Seasons” editions. Aside from the new dial colors of this Prospex dive watch, its robust specs are consistent with the existing line. At 44mm wide in steel, the SPB105 runs on the Seiko 6R15 automatic movement with hand-winding and hacking, and a 50-hour power reserve.
This line of vintage-inspired dive watches has some generally more premium specs, like sapphire crystal, and is accordingly priced higher than Prospex models like the Turtle or Samurai. On a steel bracelet, the Seiko Prospex Diver 200m SPB105 will be available in fall 2019 for a price of $1,050.
