Watch nerds love a good midcentury chronograph, but parting with thousands of your hard-earned dollars just to wear something on your wrist with a tachymeter on it — which, let’s face it, you probably don’t have any use for, anyway — is a difficult proposition. Thankfully, there are some newer brands making vintage-inspired watches that won’t break the bank, but will get you that classic (and expensive) aesthetic nonetheless.
Jack Mason’s newest watch is the Halyard Sport, a nautically themed, triple-register chronograph with a quartz-powered movement that retails for just $275-$295 and includes a date window. The 42mm chronograph features 100m of water resistance, applied indices, Super-LumiNova lume, a unidirectional count-up bezel, and either a leather or rubber strap. Available dials include white or black with steel cases ($275) or blue with a steel case and gold-colored accents.
