If you were paying attention to our coverage of Baselworld 2019, you may have noticed the myriad GMT-equipped models that made their debut at this year’s show. One of these, the Zodiac Super Sea Wolf GMT reissue, flew off the proverbial shelves and was quickly sold out, leaving value-seeking horophiles to scream “Whhhyyyyyyy?!” and tear at their hair in rage.
But that’s not quite all, folks. Hodinkee, a Zodiac authorized dealer, has partnered with Zodiac to carry a special limited edition of the Super Sea Wolf GMT that’s also limited to just 182 pieces and priced at an MSRP of $1,695 — the price of the original reissue from Baselworld. And what’s special about it, you might ask? The Bakelite-looking, mineral glass-covered bezel on this model is done in seafoam green and cobalt blue for an awesome look, matched by a seafoam green GMT hand and complimented by a dial described by Hodinkee as “a dark Caspian blue-green tone” (matte black overall, but with hints of green and blue that appear in natural light).
If you don’t recall what makes the Super Sea Wolf GMT such as value play, it’s got: a Swiss automatic ETA2893-2 GMT movement with date function; a rotating, bidirectional 24-hour bezel; a 40mm stainless steel case; a sapphire crystal and a matching stainless steel three-link bracelet with folding clasp. An awesome, retro-styled GMT for less than $1,700 in an awesome colorway? It’s tough to argue with that.
