The result is even better than I expected.

Just about every brand makes an integrated sports watch these days. Although some of them get loads of attention, like Audemars Piguet’s Royal Oak and Rolex’s new Land-Dweller, many others fly under the radar.

One watch that falls into the latter camp is the BR-05 from Bell & Ross. The watch is a seamless combination of the French brand’s signature round-in-a-square case design with classic luxury sports styling — the bracelet is reminiscent of the Patek Philippe Nautilus, while the exposed screws on the bezel recall the Royal Oak. It is a very attractive and well-finished integrated sports watch that doesn’t get mentioned nearly enough when discussing the category.

That’s a shame, because Bell & Ross has done a lot of unique and interesting things with the BR-05 template, like the souped-up BR-X5 with an iridescent dial, the full ceramic skeletonized version, and this new version, the BR-05 Sincere White Lum.

White and Red All Over

Sincere Fine Watches is a Singapore-based retailer that’s been around forever. OK, maybe not forever, but the company was founded back in 1954 — 11 years before Singapore became an independent country.

With the Southeast Asian nation celebrating its 60th birthday this year, Bell & Ross turned to Sincere for this exclusive collab that goes further than most similar teamups, as it actually breaks new ground for the BR-05.

The BR-05 Sincere White Lum is mostly your standard BR-05 stainless steel. It has the same integrated tapering bracelet, the same 40mm square case with 100m of water resistance and the same Sellita SW300-based automatic movement inside.

Where the watch differentiates itself is on the dial, where there are a few interesting things going on.

The attractive red-on-white color scheme isn’t employed often enough in the watch industry.

First, and most obviously, is the color. The dial itself is white while everything on it — the hands, indices and all text, including the date — are brick red. White and red is a color combination that isn’t seen often enough in the watch world — I’ve always been partial to Farer’s Bernina Chronograph — and it looks dynamite here. The colors were chosen to represent Singapore’s flag, which is, you guessed it, red and white.

The date window here has also been tweaked. On the standard BR-05 Auto, the date is a standard rectangular window that replaces the index at 3:00. Here, it’s been moved to a diminutive circular cutout at 4:30. Say what you want about 4:30 date windows, but I like this move. It’s pretty unobtrusive and allows for the addition of a big ol’ Arabic “3” index in that sweet Bell & Ross font.

Lastly, and most significantly, is the lume on the dial. You’ve probably noticed that, while there is lume on the hands, there isn’t any on the indices. That’s because the entire dial is lumed with blue-emission Grade X2 Super-LumiNova, the brightest, longest-lasting lume made by the Swiss illumination giant.

Super-LumiNova Grade X2 covers the entire dial for some serious luminosity.

We’ve previously seen Bell & Ross release a number of its tool watches with “Full Lum” dials, including the BR 03-92 Diver, BR V2-94 chronograph, and BR 03-92 pilot’s watch (which also has a fully lumed strap), among others. But this marks the first time Bell & Ross has implemented its “Full Lum” treatment on a BR-05.

Integrated luxury sports watches don’t often get novelty features like a fully lumed dial, but I think it looks spectacular here — especially with the blue-glowing lume pairing up nicely with the dial’s red accents.

Pricing and Availability

Unless you’re located in the intended target market of Southeast Asia, the Bell & Ross BR-05 Sincere White Lum won’t be particularly easy to get. It’s available exclusively from two locations in Singapore: the Sincere Fine Watches boutique at Suntec City and the Bell & Ross boutique at The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands, plus online at Sincere’s website.

Pricing is in Singapore dollars and is listed at SGD 7,247.71 before tax. As of this writing, that translates to about $5,639 in American greenbacks, which would be about a $500 premium over the $5,100 SRP of a standard 40mm BR-05 Auto in steel.
