Last year, Bremont unveiled the Supermarine 500m. Boasting a fully ceramic case and a helium escape valve, among other premium features, the watch was a robust beast of a tool watch while also being quite the looker.

Then, in April of this year, Bremont launched a version of the watch in 904L stainless steel with a black ceramic bezel and a matching black 3D wave-patterned dial. The watch boasted most of the same specs as the full-ceramic version, but thanks to the more affordable case material, it was only about 2/3 the price.

Now, Bremont has issued a new version of the steel Supermarine 500m, this time with a Polar White dial. And holy smokes, it is one seriously attractive dive watch.

Pole Position

This is hardly the first time a brand has found some design magic swapping out a black dial for a white one while keeping the rest of the watch basically the same.

The OG “Polar” dial would be the Rolex Explorer II, which added the white dial — christened “Polar” by fans — as a complement to its black-dialed spelunking watch in the 1980s. Tudor followed the same template at Watches and Wonders this year with its own “Polar” Explorer II-type watch, the Black Bay Pro. Then, of course, there’s the Omega Speedmaster, whose white lacquer-dial version became one of the most talked-about new watches of 2024.

Now it’s Bremont’s turn, and the Supermarine 500m Polar White appears to have applied the same lessons learned from those previously mentioned examples.

Like the white Speedy, Bremont has kept the bezel black to provide some striking contrast to the white dial. Also, like Omega, Bremont applied a splash of color to the white dial to spice things up. While the Speedy features red text on its white dial, Bremont has opted for a light orange that’s very close to the iconic shade seen on the Polar Explorer II.

There’s just something about that shade of orange against a white dial. Blame Rolex.

For the indices, Bremont kept them white for the superior lume but added bold black surrounds to keep them highly legible. This is the same tactic employed by the Polar Explorer II and Black Bay Pro, and it looks excellent here. Next-generation blue-emission Super-LumiNova fills the indices and hands to provide plenty of low-light visibility while also looking seriously cool against the white dial.

The black version of the Supermarine 500m features the same orange text and the same 3D wave pattern on the dial, but both features have more pop on this new white version. The bezel, also the same, even seems a little easier to read since it doesn’t get washed out by the presence of a black dial.

Black or White, Still a Beast

Outside of the striking new dial treatment, this is the same Supermarine 500m that we got in April — and that’s a good thing.

The watch has a 904L stainless steel case for increased corrosion resistance, the ceramic bezel insert has raised markers for a more premium look and feel, and there’s an automatic helium escape valve on the left side of the case for saturation diving in case you plan on taking advantage of a fraction of the watch’s impressive 500m of water resistance.

The case maintains the same dimensions as before at 43mm across and a surprisingly svelte 12.98mm thick, the latter stat no doubt aided by the thin Sellita SW300-based automatic movement inside.

At less than 13mm thick, the watch is quite slender for having a 500m water-resistance rating.

Pricing and Availability

The diver is paired with a very nicely finished 904L stainless steel bracelet equipped with both quick-release spring bars and a quick-microadjust clasp. It’s quite a nice bracelet and looks great, but I do wish Bremont would make the end links articulate, as they effectively add a lot of length to the watch and make it wear larger than it should.

If the fit on the bracelet is a problem, however, you can opt to purchase the watch on either a quick-release black rubber strap or an anthracite and black NATO. Doing so will save you a few bucks, too. On the bracelet, the Supermarine 500m Polar White retails for $5,000, while on a strap it’s $4,700. All three arrangements can be purchased now on Bremont’s website.
