G-Shock’s New Minimalist Masterpiece Is a Full-Metal, All-Analog Stunner

It may be smaller, slimmer and more streamlined the brand’s infamous CasiOak, but this brand-new G-Steel model is no less refined.

G-Shock may be best known for its rugged, overbuilt digital watches. But the brand can clean up nicely when it wants to.

As proof, look no further than the brand-new GST-B1000 series under the G-Steel banner.

With three textured dial options, each boasting an all-analog display, the watch measures 46.9 × 44.2 × 11.6mm. That makes it not only smaller than the full-metal CasiOak (GM-B2100) but thinner, too.

It features an octagonal bezel — a tribute to G-shock’s original watch, the DW-5000C, the brand says — and an integrated stainless-steel bracelet that comes finished with a trifold clasp.

Of course, a sharp, compact look is great and all. But where the GST-B1000 really distinguishes itself is the extent of its durability.

Under the metal hood, a carbon-reinforced resin case protects the inner workings of the watch. Meanwhile, unique urethane buffering components where the band meets the case minimize shock and stress on the joints.

The GST-B1000 also comes with 200 meters of water resistance and a small, yet considered, list of functions due to its analog nature. These include a stopwatch, countdown timer and LED light.

There’s no battery indicator but it connects to a smartphone app, where wearers can see the level of power left.
