Back in 2024, Christopher Ward teamed up with Romaric André, the “horological artist” better known as seconde-seconde, on a cheeky version of its C65 Aquitaine dive watch dubbed the “Desk Diver.”

Meant to poke fun at (or celebrate) the idea that most dive watch wearers are more likely to take their watch into the office than the ocean, the watch was full of humorous callouts on the dial and bezel, with sections dedicated to timing decidedly non-glamorous daily events like napping and gossiping.

Now, the two collaborators are back at it with another tongue-in-cheek dive watch, this one aimed squarely at how a lot of us will actually use our divers this summer.

Vacation mode

Based on Christopher Ward’s C60 Trident Reef, the “Pool Diver” is meant to thrive poolside. Like the Desk Diver’s callouts to office culture, the Pool Diver’s dial and bezel are overrun with nods to laid-back summer vacations by the hotel pool.

Starting with the dial, there’s a sherbet-colored scale in blue, yellow and orange just inside the minute track that allows for timing of certain activities: reading, sunbathing, relaxing, flexing and lastly, contemplating/reconsidering your life’s choices.

This scale corresponds to the white ceramic bezel insert, which features icons displaying a book, levels of sun exposure (including when you start to burn), a beach umbrella, a selfie camera and a sunset.

The off-white dial features applied indices and hands filled with white Super-LumiNova, with a sizable date window at 7:00 shaped like a cocktail glass that’s labeled “Max Units Per Day.” Just be careful toward the end of the month, especially if you’re going to be near a pool.

The 41mm stainless steel case features a white ceramic ring around the mid case for even more summer vibes, and the helium escape valve on the left side of the case is laser-etched and lacquer-filled to depict a tropical island.

A bit of advice: Don’t follow the daily drink recommendations of the date window unless you want to end up in the hospital.

The helium escape valve is, of course, meant to release helium atoms while resurfacing after a decompression dive. CW is calling the Pool Diver a “decompression diver” not because of this feature, but rather because it’s meant to help its wearer decompress emotionally.

The laser-etched caseback features an engraving of a diver in relief, but he’s appropriately kitted out for vacation with flip flops instead of flippers, a tank of sunscreen instead of oxygen and a cocktail in his hand.

The actual watch specs are the same as other C60 Reef models, and include 200m of water resistance, a sapphire crystal, a Sellita SW200-1 automatic movement and a total thickness of 11.45mm.

Availability and pricing

While not limited in number, the Pool Diver’s availability is, like a summer vacation, all too brief. The watch is available for preorder starting today, but that window closes on June 24, so act fast.

It’s available on either a white, blue or (most fittingly) orange Aquaflex rubber strap for $1,250, or on CW’s Oyster-style steel Bader Bracelet for $1,475. Deliveries will go out mid-July.
