G-Shock’s 5600 is undoubtedly the brand’s most significant, time-tested, enduring watch. It might even be the most iconic digital watch of all time.

Over the years, it has seen more unique iterations than you’d probably care to count. Yet, the brand continues to put interesting spins on it, even all these years later.

The latest in that long line comes in a surprising, but fitting collaboration with NBA player Rui Hachimura. It’s called the G-Shock GM5600RH-1, and it is a stone-cold stunner.

“Black Samurai”

The watch draws its styling from Hachimura’s own branding. In fact, that’s what graces the top of the dial: the Lakers player’s signature “Black Samurai” logo.

The logo combines the Japanese kanji character for “hachi” (which translates to “eight”) with a katana sword bisecting it, creating a stylized “H,” meant to represent the player’s last initial.

The stainless steel and resin case is, as always, ultra-tough.

However, it’s not just about that logo; it’s also about the color scheme. Also borrowed from Hachimura, this watch gets a sinister black body with vibrant red detailing.

That detailing even extends to the watch’s bio-based resin band, which has blacked-out stainless steel hardware etched with Hachimura’s signature.

Slam dunk

Of course, it wouldn’t be a G-Shock, much less a 5600, without some durable details and a suite of exceptional capabilities. Like its brethren, this one has them both in spades.

For instance, the case is made from a combination of stainless steel and resin, offering tremendous durability and toughness. As is probably obvious, it also houses the brand’s signature shockproofing.

The center features a circular design with a stylized black symbol resembling a sword or katana on a white background. Four screws are visible at the corners of the watch back.
Hachimura’s signature logo can also be found on the caseback.

It also has a five-year battery that powers its quartz movement. And it boasts the same great array of integrated complications we’ve all come to expect: a stopwatch, timer, multi-alarm, full-auto calendar, LED backlight and more.

All told, this is one of the most eye-catching takes on the 5600 that has come out in recent years, and it would make an excellent addition to just about any G-Shock fan’s collection and wardrobe.
