Before modern flight technology, there was a time when pilots relied on GMT watches to keep track of global time (aka ZULU or UTC time). GMT watches were useful for planning and communicating during a flight, and played a crucial role in air travel. While there are modern instruments in the cockpit that have replaced the need for pilots to rely so heavily on their timepiece of choice, it still pays to invest in a watch that can keep up with global travel. Enter: the Victorinox Air Pro GMT Automatic.

The Backstory

An evolution of the Victorinox Airboss collection, the Air Pro GMT Automatic pays homage to the history of aviation while supporting modern travelers and professionals alike. The Air Pro collection offers a more premium automatic movement with additional GMT function and is packed with features engineered to support modern mobility.

Another unmistakable link to aviation is the use of the Swiss Air Force logo in the lower half of the dial: Victorinox has been supplying the Swiss Air Force with the soldier’s knife since 1891. The logo was first used in 2000 on Victorinox pilot’s watches.

The Gist

The standout feature of this timepiece has to be its sophisticated GMT complication, which effortlessly tracks up to three time zones, ensuring you’ll stay in touch wherever business or travel takes you. The internal bezel for the third time zone reinforces the Victorinox aesthetic, but it’s not just there for looks: it also offers added protection against accidental rotation, which is an important feature for maintaining precise time zone tracking. 

Additionally, the Air Pro GMT Automatic features a Swiss Made Sellita SW330-2 Automatic Movement, 56-hour power reserve, anti-shock protection, dual crowns for keeping precise track of multiple locations and water resistance up to 200 meters. The timepiece is made with 316L stainless steel – available in sand-blasted, brushed, or polished finish — and features an anti-reflective sapphire crystal for both resilience and clarity.

Specific to this collection and inspired by vintage pilot watches, the metal bracelet design is thinner and more ergonomic, resulting in a more comfortable wear. Finally, the matte dial with raised numerals and oversized hands is filled with SuperLuminova®, in order to maintain high readability both day and night.

Each timepiece’s case, caseback, and movement holder is engineered, manufactured, and tested in-house at the Victorinox Watch Competence Center in Delémont, Switzerland.
