Timex has dominated the ultra-affordable GMT market for the better part of a decade.

The Waterbury watchmaker has plugged the travel complication into dive watches, field watches and pilot’s watches. But the best options are still the classic time-and-date dials.

Much digital ink has been spilled fawning over the Q Timex GMT as the brand’s best travel watch for daily wear, but another option in the Waterbury collection may have it beat.

The Waterbury Traditional GMT is a quartz watch with a stainless steel case, classic geometric dial, and two-tone 24-hour bezel. Measuring 40mm with an overhanging bezel, it is slightly larger than the Q Timex.

The best part is that the Waterbury Traditional GMT is ridiculously affordable during Timex’s end-of-summer sale. At $99, it is less than half the price of the Q Timex right now, and it offers a fun little feature not found on any other Timex GMT.

I’m your pusher

You may not notice it at first glance, but once you start admiring the classic beauty of the Waterbury Traditional GMT, you’re sure to spot that pusher at two o’clock.

A pusher feels very out of place on a GMT, but pressing it sets the GMT hand independently, providing a satisfying tactile experience every time.

The green arrow hand will jump ahead one hour when the pusher is tapped. Alternatively, it will move continuously clockwise when the pusher is held down, allowing for quick changes over multiple time zones.

The time and date are set in the standard manner by manipulating the crown. When the crown is in the third position to set the time, the GMT hand defaults to the midnight spot and jumps back to where it was previously set once the crown is back in the zero position.

A hazy gray

Timex’s Waterbury collection generally focuses on mid-century design, and the Waterbury Traditional GMT nails the late 1950s, early 1960s travel watch aesthetic.

The triangular and circular hour markers are set into the vertically brushed gray dial and filled with lume. The obelisk minute, hour hand and GMT hand are filled with matching faux-aged lume.

The 24-hour bezel, separated into black and red halves to indicate AM and PM hours, has an aluminum insert with printed numbers and a coin edge. It hangs over the brushed stainless steel case by about one millimeter.

Timex utilizes its massive production scale to offer incredible prices across the board, so when those prices are discounted, they’re almost too good to turn down. The Waterbury Traditional GMT is undoubtedly the best dual-time zone watch you can get for $100.
