One of the watches that got me into watches is the TAG Heuer Carrera, specifically Jack Heuer’s original designs from the 1960s, like the 2447 and the Carrera 12 collection.
Try as they might, I never thought the modern LVMH-owned TAG Heuer would ever top that first generation. But then the Carrera Chronograph Glassbox was introduced in 2023.

Jack Heuer’s original 1963 design is clearly represented in the Carrera Chronograph Glassbox beneath a layer of intricate detailing that competes in the modern luxury watch market. It has also proven to be just as versatile as its forebear, serving as a template for a robust collection that his grown exponentially over the past three years.
The Carrera Chronograph Glassbox has spawned dozens of collaborations, revived beloved relics and donned a rainbow of colors. But the newest addition to the Carrera Chronograph family is simultaneously novel and reminiscent of the racing watch’s early days.

This limited edition Carrera Chronograph Glassbox features a sandy-colored dial with black sunken subdials and a black tachymeter track. The light, soft color has a similar look to the silver dials that dominated the 1690s, but with a hue rarely seen on TAG Heuer watches.
The approximation is so effective because the Carrera Chronograph Glassbox possesses long, faceted lugs and pump-style pushers that aren’t far off from Jack Heuer’s design. The main difference is that the modern iteration is 39mm, while the original was 36mm.
