New Balance’s Trend-Setting Low-Profile Sneaker Gets a Vibrant Update

The shoe that helped catapult the retro, slim-soled movement is back with a refreshed look, but it won’t stay for long.

Fashion Week often introduces products that feel out of reach for everyday wear.

But back in October 2023 at Miu Miu’s Spring/Summer 2024 show during Paris Fashion Week, a sneaker stepped onto the runway that would end up being one of the defining releases in the then-burgeoning low-profile sneaker movement.

Today, retro-inspired slim sneakers are everywhere.

Yet the Miu Miu and New Balance collaboration that helped jump-start the trend still manages to stand out … and now, the 530 SL is back in six new colorways and material options, including a vibrant cranberry red.

Just don’t expect it to linger.

Slim style

The 530 SL retains the minimal profile and funky double lace of the first version, but brings in new materials and colors for a seasonal refresh.

The surprise release sees the influential sneaker reworked with tonal color palettes, technical materials and an effortless blend of luxury and casual style.

Four of the new variants are built with technical fabric bases paired with calf suede overlays on the toe box, eyestays and heel counters. The colorways include Forest Green, Cerise, Cocoa Brown and Beige.

Each of the four come with a dual-lace closure that sees flat white cotton shoelaces paired with a coordinated, patterned rope lace.

The Sienna colorway of the leather version is the most traditional looking option of the six new styles.

The remaining two pairs are designed with a perforated, weathered leather upper that brings texture and pattern to the minimal sneaker.

The Deco 530 SL leather option comes in two colorways, White and Sienna, and also comes with a multi-lace look; this variant sees the flat white laces paired with brown leather laces and an additional set of patterned rope laces.

Co-branding hits appear on the tongue and insole, but otherwise, the shoe maintains its subtle aesthetic.

Despite its luxury price tag of more than a thousand dollars, across both material options and all six colorways, the 530 SL’s sizes are selling out quickly … so if you want in on this surprise drop, act sooner rather than later.

The New Balance x Miu Miu 530 SL is available now on Miu Miu’s website, retailing for $1,270.
