New Balance’s Ultimate Dad Shoe Hasn’t Looked This Stealthy in Years

New Balance might be the preeminent dad shoe brand. But one model stands out above the rest.

The latest in the longtime 99X family when it debuted in 2008, the 993 combined elements of the 991 and 992 to become the ultimate hybrid. It balanced chunkier proportions with premium “Made in USA” construction. Like other New Balance models, it served as the ultimate canvas for iterations both expressive and reserved.

Now, for the first time since 2022, the brand releases a new Triple Black iteration of the 993. And it goes with everything.

Darkness, darkness

Whether you’re aiming for a fully monochromatic ensemble or anchoring your look, all-black is arguably the most versatile option you can pick. New Balance sneakers always look solid when they’re murdered out but the 993 decidedly takes the cake.

Since it launched in the 993 lineup, Triple Black was treated as a core colorway but has been more difficult to find in recent years. But now fans of the stealthy look, and also individuals working certain jobs that call for comfortable footwear, will soon find the colorway more accessible again.

Back in black (again)

The new Made in USA 993 Triple Black (SKU U993BL) is largely the same as the previous iteration. Like your standard 993, the instantly recognizable silhouette boasts a breathable mesh upper with suede overlays and a subtle “N” logo on the side.

Of course, everything is in black, from the uppers to the midsole, outsole and laces. The shoe still features the brand’s Abzorb DTS cushioning underfoot. Despite the monochromatic color scheme, however, the sneaker still pops thanks to the 993’s iconic design.

Availability and pricing

Watch for the Made in USA 993 Triple Black to drop this summer in the United States for $200. Some overseas retailers, like End ($269), have it listed already.
