Search “532 Bucklock” and you’ll find forum posts dating back literally decades, from enthusiasts seeking and sometimes finding various iterations of the elusive folder.

Though the knife has been discontinued, Buck just brought it back, in limited form, through its whimsical Buck of the Month program.

The latest treatment is one of the most interesting yet, combining premium steel and some unique handle styling.

The latter quality alone is sure to catch the attention of music-loving collectors, among others.

Tune in, rock out

Let’s cut to the chase with this handle, as it is easily the knife’s most striking feature.

Crafted from Indian Rosewood, it features a barehead bolster and frame made of nickel silver.

The nickel silver frets on the handle add visual interest, as does the filework on the frame.

That same material factors into the three guitar-style frets along the body, which lend an uncommon musical vibe to this knife.

Functionally, I’m not certain what the frets offer; although they could arguably help with grip, the appeal is mostly aesthetic.

The premium steel of the blade will stand up to daily use, especially considering this style of knife is usually limited to the opening of letters and packages, if not merely display.

But let’s not sleep on the business end here: it’s a 3-inch drop-point blade made of satin-finished, BOS heat-treated S35VN steel.

This sought-after material offers a strong balance of hardness, toughness, edge retention and corrosion resistance.

The prominent backlock between the frets is the key to retracting the blade.

As this knife falls in the gentleman’s/heritage/heirloom category, fast and easy action is not necessarily a priority.

Brandish the blade using the long pull nail notch; it’s held in place by a backlock (true to the wordplay in the knife’s name), which must be pressed in to bring it home.

As this knife could be passed down through the generations, the inclusion of a leather sheath is a nice touch.

Befitting its refined nature, the 3.7-ounce USA-made knife comes with not only a Certificate of Authenticity but also something a bit more useful: a leather sheath.
