Fiio has established itself as one of the leading names in budget hi-fi, now with a wide catalog of portable hi-fi players, amplifiers and headphones aimed at aspiring audiophiles.

Now, with its latest release, Fiio is taking on some of the biggest brands in the consumer audio space with a pair of noise-canceling headphones. Their main selling points? Sound and price.

The Fiio EH13 is a pair of wireless noise-canceling headphones that are extremely budget-friendly. They cost just $50, which puts them as one of the most affordable options you can.

But despite its low price, the EH13 promises to deliver audio quality rare for wireless headphones.

Aside from price, one of their main selling points is LDAC support, which lets them stream the highest-resolution audio currently available over Bluetooth.

High-res streaming support

The headphones pack 40mm dynamic drivers and, most notably, support LDAC, which is the highest-resolution Bluetooth codec. These audio files have a max bitrate of up to 990 kbps, which is significantly higher than all other popular Bluetooth codecs, including AAC (up to 320kbps) and aptX Lossless (up to 420 kbps).

The catch is that you have to stream audio from a device that supports LDAC files as well, which is mostly Android smartphones and digital hi-fi players. (Apple’s devices notoriously do not natively support LDAC.)

The headphones weigh 278 grams, which is very light and should make them quite comfortable.

For further fine-tuning, the EH13 is compatible with a companion app, the Fiio Control App (available on iOS and Android), which allows you to choose from “professionally tuned EQ presets” or create your own custom EQ settings.

As with most wireless headphones at this price, I wouldn’t expect them to have anywhere near the best active noise-cancellation capabilities. But Fiio claims it has three noise-canceling modes: Low, Medium and High.

Up to 75 hours of battery life

Battery life promises to be pretty legit. The headphones are rated as getting up to 45 hours with ANC turned on and up to 75 hours with ANC turned off. (Of course, this will vary depending on the volume the headphones are playing.)

Other features include a 3.5mm input, so you can use them as wired headphones and connect them to game consoles (like a Nintendo Switch) and an in-flight entertainment system.

They also support Bluetooth multi-point, so you can pair them with two devices simultaneously, such as your laptop and smartphone, for seamless switching.

Additionally, the EH13 headphones have a foldable design that rotates flat, making them more travel-friendly.

They’re also lightweight, weighing just 278 grams, so they promise to be fairly comfortable. (By comparison, Apple’s AirPods Max 2, which are known for being heavy, weigh 386 grams.)
