A British Hi-Fi Brand’s New Affordable Turntables Aim to Make Vinyl Hi-Fi Easy

They’re designed for those just getting into vinyl and want to upgrade “from a basic record player.”

Just a few months ago, Majority introduced the Auto, a belt-drive turntable with a built-in phono preamplifier, and the D50X, a set of compact powered speakers. When paired together, it’s an entry-level hi-fi system aimed at people who are just getting into vinyl.

Fast forward a few months, and the British audio brand has introduced new models of its entry-level turntables that it claims are designed for new vinyl fans “taking a first step into record collecting or upgrading from a basic record player. “

Two different entry-level turntables

Majority has upgraded both of its entry-level turntables, the Stylo and the Folio, which are quite different.

The Stylo is a more traditional. It’s a belt-drive turntable with a built-in phono preamplifier and standard RCA connections, so you can hook it up directly to a pair of powered speakers. It also has built-in Bluetooth, so if you want a wire-free hi-fi setup, you can stream vinyl to your wireless speakers instead.

Other features of the Stylo include an aluminum platter, a carbon fiber tonearm and it comes with an Audio-Technica AT3600L moving magnet cartridge.

While the Stylo is positioned as a “just add speakers” turntable, the Folio is even more hassle-free. It’s an all-in-one turntable with its own built-in speakers. So you just plug it in, and you’re ready to play vinyl.

The turntable has an aluminum platter, an S-shaped tonearm and packs the same Audio-Technica AT3600L moving-magnet cartridge as the Stylo. However, it comes with a few extra modern features.

Since it has a built-in speaker and Bluetooth, you can use it as a standard wireless speaker when not listening to vinyl. It supports USB playback and USB recording, allowing you to digitize your records. It also has a headphone jack, so you can enjoy a private vinyl listening session.

The big upgrade with both of Majority’s entry-level turntables … they’re now available in a lot more fun colors.

The Stylo comes in five different colors: Blackout, Sol Yellow, British Racing Green, Blue Steel and Oxblood. The Folio comes in the same five finishes, but adds a sixth: Plywood.

Availability and pricing

Both of Majority’s turntables are available right now in the UK; US pricing and availability information have not yet been released.

The Majority Stylo costs £160 (approx. $210), while the Folio costs £170 (approx. $230).
