Hitting the road with an RV probably sounds pretty appealing if you nurture even the slightest bit of wanderlust. Unfortunately, realizing that kind of dream often requires the towing capabilities of a truck and/or splashing a bunch of cash on a fancy trailer.

As a result, there has been a growing number of smaller solutions designed to make the experience more accessible. Be it pop-tops or shorter aluminum setups, even Airstream is getting in on the action.

The Clasica owes its distinctive looks to 1970s Europe.

However, the latest promising effort to emerge doesn’t come from an established presence. Instead, it’s the product of a fresh Oregon-based upstart by the name of Clasica.

A retro-inspired lightweight

Now, even though the company might be a new name to the space, it’s taken a decidedly old-school approach in its efforts to create a camper that’s retro, affordable and hassle-free.

Seeing as the original design was made for tiny classic Fiats, today’s Subarus and small crossovers are more than capable of towing it.

That’s because The Clasica comprises a one-piece fiberglass shell, and the shape itself actually originated in 1970s Europe. It’s inspired by a mold of a vintage Polish design known as the Niewiadów N126 (as is confirmed by the above included image on the website).

On the road, this makes for a very practical choice. Seeing as the OGs were designed to be hauled by tiny Fiat economy cars, Clasica’s trailer is not only a featherweight but also super compact.

The camper tips the scales at around 1,200 pounds, and its overall length comes to just 12 feet. As a result, it promises to be a truly accessible option, towable by everything from sedans and wagons to small crossovers and SUVs. Hell, it’s light enough that even some golf carts are up to the job.

Still, with features like built-in stabilizers for pitching camp, double-pane windows and a pop-top roof for adding a little extra room, it’s equipped to be more than a quaint retro-vibed accessory.

Simple but honest sleeping

To that end, Clasica may have kept the interior simple, but it’s an effort that’s nevertheless designed to maximize livability.

As such, it touts just over six feet of standing room, and it brings a pair of dinettes that can be converted into single and double beds.

Moreover, while The Clasica doesn’t make provisions for a bathroom or shower, it nevertheless comes specced with some key creature comforts.

Along with a Goal Zero Yeti 1500 6G power station, it also sports a Dometic mini fridge and a kitchenette complete with an included sink and a three-gallon fresh water tank.

Assuming you’re a more power-hungry buyer who plans on using the interior LED lighting or plugging into the USB ports and outlets, don’t fret. The setup isn’t as robust as some rigs, but Clasica does ship the camper solar-ready.
