Toyota Might’ve Just Injected Some Cool Into Its Once Most Boring Model

Toyota might’ve just added some major cool factor to one of its cars that was once the complete antithesis of cool. The Big T implemented some new updates to what is arguably the best Prius ever made.

The revisions consist of the usual subtle tweaks, equipment and pricing changes. But one that caught our attention was the addition of a new deep black exterior hue.

And when combined with one of the Prius’s best trim levels, the result is a model that looks way better than any of its predecessors could have dreamt of being.

One murdered out Prius

The new color is called “Inked.” It joins a group of fresh optional hues specifically for the Prius Plug-In Hybrid. When paired with the top-spec XSE trim, which also comes with black-painted wheels, the result is a Prius that looks like it’s ready to shuttle some Yakuza around.

No, seriously. We can’t ever remember the last time a Prius looked this darn good. It’s menacing.

Toyota also made other colors available on the Prius’s other trims, where they were previously not available. Ultimately, prospective buyers will no longer have to worry about having an image problem when considering the Prius.

Keeping it affordable and value-packed

Another perk to this year’s 2027 update is only a very slight increase in price, to the tune of $205. It’s borderline negligible, which is a relief, given how expensive everything is nowadays.

Thankfully, Toyota also boosted the Prius’s value. Now, dual-zone automatic climate control is standard across the board.

So there’s no more fighting over the interior temperature’s thermostat during a road trip.

Otherwise, the Prius carries on with its original signature gas-electric hybrid powertrains. The standard Prius is available with either front- or all-wheel drive.

The front-driven Prius serves up 194 horsepower in total, resulting in a 0-60 mph time of just 7.2 seconds. But the best part is that it can return up to 55 miles per gallon.

Figures slightly differ for the all-paw version. The all-wheel Prius gets a couple of extra horses and sprints to 60 mph in just seven seconds.

Of them all, the Plug-In version is the quickest, with 220 total horsepower and a 0-60 mph time of just 6.6 seconds. It can return up to 51 mpg combined while also offering up to 44 miles of all-electric range.

Availability and pricing

The 2027 Toyota Prius now starts at $28,550, while the fancier Prius Plug-In Hybrid requires $33,980. Both prices exclude the standard destination and shipping charge. The new model-year Prius will be available at local dealers later this summer.
