Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey already shattered box-office expectations on its opening weekend and earned near-universal critical acclaim, leaving both cinephiles and Nolanheads giddy.

But a quieter story related to the movie has also been unfolding on Travis Scott’s feet.

Scott isn’t just a fan of the film. He contributed to it — acting in (spoiler alert) a small role as well as performing on an original end credits track alongside James Blake and composer Ludwig Göransson.

And it appears he’s leveraged that association with one of the biggest movies of the year into something that only die-hard sneakerheads might’ve seen coming: pairs of custom Nikes for himself and reportedly gifted to cast members.

Officially licensed film tie-in products do exist — Klipsch — the film’s exclusive promotional audio partner — released a limited-edition portable Bluetooth speaker tied to The Odyssey, but the shoes in question don’t fall into the classic merch bucket.

There’s no official Nolan co-sign with the sneakers or Odyssey hang tag. But they exist, they’ve been spotted, and they represent a crafty and interesting grey area in the world of creative IP and merch.

There are actually two distinct custom Nike silhouettes that have surfaced in connection with Scott and the film’s release.

GQ and others clocked Scott at the movie’s premiere in what appears to be a custom Nike Moon Shoe rendered in a colorway that tracks with the film’s visual palette.

The second is harder to miss: Sneaker News identified the style as a custom Nike ACG Moc, a low-profile slip-on that typically flies under the radar compared to Scott’s more theatrical collabs.

Scott revealed on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that the ACG Moc version had been gifted to cast members, which tracks with how Scott and Nike have operated in the past — exclusivity as currency, access as the flex.
