To co-opt a quote from American sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson, the LDV isn’t just back, it’s better.

Nike’s original outdoor sneaker made history in the late ’70s, when American climbers Rick Ridgeway and John Roskelley famously wore pairs on a historic ascent of K2.

Half a century later, it returns to kick off a new era for Nike’s outdoor performance sub-brand, ACG, with original lines and modern midsole technology.

Instead of your standard piece of foam, the new-and-improved LDV features a thick bed of ReactX, combined with a treaded outsole reminiscent of the iconic Waffle.

Launch colorways included vibrant blue and yellow, as worn by Ridgeway and Roskelley decades earlier. However, Nike clearly views the LDV as more than a period-correct reissue.

Mountain cred, street style

Emerging now overseas, a new “Wolf Grey” colorway gives the design its most versatile look yet.

The low-key variant leans on a light gray upper with matching panelwork, laces and a tonal tongue to give the LDV a subdued look compared to the launch colorways.

It also features classic navy accents, inclusive of the back panel, side Swoosh and ACG logo on the heel.

While the new variant is certainly novel in the context of the 2026 LDV rollout, it’s not entirely foreign to Nike, let alone ACG.

The under-the-radar ACG Lowcate showcased a similar color combination shortly after its release in 2022.
