Kiwame Yokyo is easily Japan’s most celebrated new independent watchmaker, known for blending classical watch design with Tokyo’s traditional architecture.

However, one complaint that has surfaced repeatedly in comment sections and online discussions is the similarity seen in every release since the brand debuted in 2025. That sentiment is blown away with the completely new Yane collection, featuring an Art Deco-inspired rectangular case and a two-hand lacquered dial.

Vintage watch fans will notice a resemblance to the JLC Reverso in the silhouette of the stainless steel case, which measures 26.5mm wide by 44mm lug-to-lug. But the nuanced shape of the case distinguishes it as a novel design.

One aspect that the Yane carries over from all previous Kiwame Tokyo releases is a reflection of Tokyo’s classical architecture. This time, founder and designer Masami Watanabe drew inspiration from the sloping rooftops of Asakusa’s Senso-ji Buddhist temple.

Inside the case is an elegantly minimalist dial, featuring a lacquered plate available in black or burgundy, each paired with a matching leather strap. Two stick hands at the center are joined by the brand’s mune logo applied at 12:00.

Tear the roof off

The Yune case is deceptively complex, with the concave, fluted sections between the lugs drawing the most attention. But the sharp lugs themselves have an imposing curved shape, pulled directly from the temple rooftop.

The 9.7mm-tall case is polished, with a flat midcase that flows into a slightly concave upper portion that functions as a bezel, holding the flat, AR-coated sapphire crystal.

Two sticks

The Yane dial has a smooth lacquered surface with no markings beyond the brand logo and wordmark. Only a pair of polished stick hands indicates the time, powered by a Miyota Caliber 6T27 automatic movement.

It is a solid Japanese workhorse movement that beats at 4Hz and provides a 40-hour power reserve while keeping the retail price well below $1,000.

Availability and price

Many Kiwame Tokyo fans voiced their desire for a new case, and oh boy, were they acknowledged. The new Yane hits the affordable dress watch market like a cannonball, offering one of the best JLC or Cartier alternatives under $1,000.

The Kiwame Tokyo Yane, available in the black Kuro and the burgundy Enji references, retails for $730 before taxes and import fees. Preorders open up on August 19, 2026, with delivery beginning in December.
