Birkenstock’s Fan-Favorite Mule Has Never Looked This Good

Back in 2023, the streetwear darlings at Kith and footwear mavens at Birkenstock teamed up on a unique take on the latter brand’s London shoe, changing up its styling with some braided refinement.

Then, in 2024, they did it again — swapping the color palette for a pair of pastel, summer-friendly options.

Now, the brands are teaming up for a third time, but on a different silhouette entirely.

The Birkenstock x Kith Braided Boston applies that same refined, moccasin-like styling to Birkenstock’s fan-favorite mule.

Braiders of the Lost Ark

Like its London siblings before it, the big change for this take on the Boston is its upper. While it maintains the same classic material construction, the way it’s put together is decidedly different.

Instead of a smooth suede upper, this one gets an intricately braided pattern that wraps around from near the heel, all the way around the toe, and back down the other side.

All three colorways maintain the shoe’s typical materials: suede, cork and so on.

But it’s not just that; there’s some serious craftsmanship involved. Each pair is custom handwoven. Not only is the styling is more refined, but the banner feature has also been meticulously pored over by genuine artisans.

This is especially evident in the White colorway, which features a special rainbow braid that, due to the handcrafted nature of these mules, makes each one unique from its siblings.

The braided detailing is done by hand, adding another layer of craftsmanship to these mules.

While the braiding adds a striking, moccasin-like touch to these shoes, the rest of their construction is still quite similar to more standard Bostons. This, however, is a very good thing, as the shoes were already beautifully constructed.

The upper, including the braiding, is crafted from fine, soft cow suede, including the strap that goes across its top. That strap is mated to the footwear brand’s signature metal buckle and hardware, and it features the Kith logo embossed on its surface.

The signature suede-lined cork footbed also remains. And like other Bostons, it’s mated to a comfy EVA outsole.

This special edition Boston is also available in a trio of colorways: White with rainbow braiding (as mentioned), Taupe and Mocca.

Just keep in mind: these are likely to be in high demand and will probably sell out in mere minutes after they launch, so you’ll want to stay on top of things if you hope to get a pair.

The Birkenstock x Kith Braided Boston will launch today, August 21, at Kith stores everywhere and go live online at 11 AM EST on Kith’s domestic and international sites.
