A Venerated EDC Knife Brand Launches Its Most Eye-Catching Folder Yet

This is the final puzzle piece in GiantMouse’s collaboration with Carryology, and it’s easily the best of the whole bunch.

Twice, now, GiantMouse (the brainchild of designers Jens Ansø and Jesper Voxnaes) has collaborated with the EDC mavens at Carryology. And twice, the results have been nothing short of spectacular.

However, the third and final piece of the puzzle, the GiantMouse x Carryology ACE Grand Auxikko folding knife, kicks the whole collection up a notch. In the words of GiantMouse itself, this blade is the “ultimate expression” of the brands’ team-up.

A folding knife with a patterned black and gray handle featuring orange accents is standing upright on a log. Behind the knife is a brown backpack with a black strap and a patch that reads "Carryology" in orange text. The scene is outdoors with green foliage surrounding the log and backpack.
Like its siblings, this knife has Carryology’s iconic auxikko pattern etched into the handle.

The missing piece

In a lot of ways, this third collaboration knife is like a combination of the first two. It boasts a silhouette and some mechanisms more in line with the stouter Riv Auxikko, but has sizing (at least its length) similar to the Sonoma Auxikko.

Yet, it is also greater than the sum of its parts (but let’s not get ahead of ourselves).

The liner lock and wire pocket clip ensure this knife is as clean as possible without sacrificing functionality.

Like its two previous siblings, this knife bears the same signature handle pattern from which the series derives its name: Carryology’s iconic, geometric auxikko design. However, it’s not just for looks.

The pattern is actually etched into the handle, granting it some tactility and adding much-needed grip, especially in colder and damper conditions.

Like its siblings, it also has a flipper deployment, Carryology’s signature orange highlights (on the pivot and backspacer lanyard hole), a wire deep-carry pocket clip and a classic liner lock.

Because the geometric pattern is etched into the handle, it adds some much-needed grip.

Opulent and formidable

The similarities don’t end at the design, either. They extend to the materials and other mechanisms, too.

For instance, this knife’s handle is made from solid titanium, and the drop-point blade is made of Elmax steel, one of the most sought-after, high-end, high-performance steels on the market today.

Alongside the flipper, the knife also gets a thumb hole for an alternative deployment and jimping on the spine to help with grip and stability when cutting. But all of that is pretty similar to its siblings, so what’s the major difference?

At 7.81 inches, this knife is a bit larger than average but not too big for most EDC loadouts.

Size and shape. This knife has a 3.31-inch blade with a wide cutting belly and thick, sturdy spine. That blade is mated to a similarly strong and thick handle, measuring 4.5 inches.

That comes to 7.81 inches in total — right in the sweet spot for everyday carry, albeit on the slightly larger end of the spectrum.

In my humble opinion, those differences are enough to make this the best knife in the trio by a pretty wide margin. And that’s saying a lot, as the other two knives are spectacular.

Available now (but going fast)

The GiantMouse x Carryology ACE Grand Auxikko is now available on the former brand’s site for $325. However, it’s limited to just 600 units and, like its siblings, is likely to sell out extremely quickly.

Get it while you can.
