This Stunning “Space Watch” from a Fan-Favorite Brand Takes the Term Literally

The final installment of Unimatic’s three-watch collaboration with Massena Lab wasn’t designed for space but from it.

Relative to the industry at large, only a small percentage of timepieces have traveled beyond Earth’s atmosphere.

Even fewer actually come from there.

The latest to join this elite category of so-called space watches is the third and final installment of a collaboration between Unimatic and Massena Lab.

But unlike the Omega Speedmaster, which earned the designation after accompanying both Gemini and Apollo astronauts to space, the Modello Quattro U4S‐T‐SPW embraces the term quite literally.

From space, not for it

Its headline feature is a genuine meteorite dial, which gets its extraterrestrial pattern (known as the Widmanstätten) from traveling millions of years through the solar system before falling down to Earth.

“These intricate lines, created light-years away from our planet, ensure that no two dials are ever alike,” the two brands said in a joint announcement on Instagram.

Notably, the markers and NASA logo that make up the face of the watch are printed on the underside of a 2.8mm sapphire crystal.

That said, the trick does more than simply preserve the integrity of the dial. It also creates a “floating effect that adds depth and visual intrigue, giving the dial a distinct space-inspired character,” the brands added.

Like the Modello Uno “Space Program,” a limited-edition watch Unimatic made to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the space program, the Modello Quattro U4S‐T‐SPW features a bright-white case, courtesy of a Cerakote H140 finish.

Unimatic has used Cerakote H140 to finish other watches in the past, but this one also features a titanium case.

However, steel on the former makes way for a high-performance titanium case here, which houses a Swiss-made no-date Sellita SW200-1 automatic movement. That gives it a power reserve of 38 hours, with an average accuracy of +/- 12 seconds per day.
