BMW M Will Be Supposedly Clutching onto These Two-Door Manuals Through 2029

Don’t worry, you’ll have plenty of time to scoop up an M2 or M4 with three pedals.

If you were worried about missing your chance to pick up a BMW M2 or M4 with three pedals, have no fear. BMWBlog reports that Munich is keeping its beloved high-performance coupes around up through 2029.

The nitty-gritty comes in via a post on enthusiast forum, BimmerPost. There, a user claiming to be an “insider” with the Munich automaker said that they received word about the continuation of some of the current M models.

Fear of missing out rose sharply when BMW announced its new, all-electric M3. The new model is a part of the automaker’s next-gen Neue Klasse vehicle strategy, which involves significant moves towards electrification.

But due to lack of demand for EVs and regulatory rollbacks, automakers, like BMW, are pumping the brakes on its original electrification plans. To fill in the gaps and buy time for pivoting, BMW’s apparently keeping some of its ICE models as it reworks its strategy.

The next-gen M cars are still destined for both electric and ICE power

If you’ve been confused about the future of BMW’s next-generation icons, don’t fret. Things have been really shifty over the past several years.

But as time marches on, automakers, like BMW, are reworking their strategies. They’ve pragmatically realized that EVs aren’t exactly the way forward.

In response to changes in projected market demand, many are reconsidering their paths forward. With BMW, and like others, automaker are now envisioning a world where both EV-powered and ICE-powered vehicles coexist, being sold alongside one another.

But to get there, BMW’s apparently having to extend the life of its current models. This would allow them to buy some time so they could reallocate their resources to align with the strategy changes.

The upside for prospective buyers is the prolonged availability of their current models.

Regular 2 Series, 4 Series, and M2 will also continue through mid-2029

But the M4 and its variants aren’t the only models benefiting from the production extension. In the same breath, the user claims it also affects the standard “G22” 4 Series coupe, “G23” convertible, and even the “G87” M2.

The M2 is the only other current BMW M car available with a six-speed manual.

This wouldn’t be the first time a manufacturer extended vehicle production due to internal strategy changes. There have been many notable instances where BMW, and even other automakers, extended the life of series production models.

The idea is essentially to buy some R&D time for the engineers and product planners to complete next-gen replacements.

But nonetheless, future M2 and M4 owners need not worry about any FOMO.
