Birkenstock’s Best Clog Finally Gets the Campground Slipper Treatment

The beloved German sandal brand upgrades two of its most iconic silhouettes, the Boston and the London, with winterized materials.

The Birkenstock Boston has been prized as a comfortable, dependable clog since its introduction in 1979, but it wasn’t always thought of as a camp shoe, especially in the winter months.

Earlier this year, Birkenstock gave the popular style an outdoorsy once-over, releasing a Gorpcore-influenced utilitarian variant of the timeless clog called the Nova.

Now, Birkenstock transforms the Boston Nova into an even more camp-friendly shoe, thanks to a seasonally-appropriate material update.

Cozy and capable

Instead of traditional nubuck and textile, Birkenstock swapped in wool felt for the latest Boston Nova Felt release.

As one half of the new winter-ready Utility Pack (the London being the other) the Boston Nova Felt retains much of the utilitarian DNA of the initial Nova release: the same G-hook buckle system, EVA cushioning and grippy rubber outsole appear on this new variant.

What’s new is the upper: the synthetic-blend felt is paired with nubuck leather toe caps, which pay homage to the OG Boston and protect the felt from water and weather.

The felt upper is also meant to be both a natural insulator and to promote breathability, while the suede lining on the cork/latex footbed adds a cozy touch.

The muted grey colorway, “Anthracite,” nods to the utilitarian, no-nonsense personality of the Boston Nova Felt, while the slip-resistant outsole helps maintain traction, whether that’s walking the dog at home or finding your way back to your tent after a night by the campfire.

The Utility Felt Pack also includes the London Nova, which features the same material update and colorways in a fully enclosed silhouette with added coverage (which could be even cozier at camp.)

The London will be available in both “Anthracite” and “Stone Coin” colorways. It will be manufactured in Portugal, while the Boston Nova Felt will be made in Germany.

Availability and pricing

The Utility Felt Pack is launching globally for the Fall/Winter 2025 season.

Right now it’s available only on Birkenstock’s overseas website, with the Boston Nova Felt priced at ~$269 and the London Nova Felt at ~$281.
