Most “city-meets-trail” boots are lacking in either style or utility. This new option from a popular outdoor brand has plenty of both.

Winter boots typically fall into one of two camps: ruggedly functional, or style-forward.

While some styles toe the line of combining form and function, it’s not often a boot looks as good as it functions, or vice versa.

In my mind, Sorel was firmly planted in the functional category, with style being an afterthought at best.

However, its newest boot has changed my stance on the brand thanks to its combination of city styling and technical features.

Substantive style

If it weren’t for the subtle logo embossed on the outer ankle of this new boot, I wouldn’t have pegged the Daystorm Horizon GTX Boot for a Sorel.

Available in “Black,” “Utility Green” and “Caribou Buff,” this elevated boot combines slick styling (particularly in the black colorway) with trail-ready features you’d find on any self-respecting outdoor boot.

The Daystorm’s sleek upper is made with a durable and timeless LWG-certified, full grain leather upper paired with hiker hardware for a subtle mix of urban and outdoor style cues.
