As much as Triumph is associated with gorgeous, classically styled Bonneville motorcycles, it’s important to remember that’s not all they make

From off-road and adventure bikes to streetfighters and scramblers, the brand extends its unique identity to a wide range of two-wheeled rides.

I’m reminded of this fact yet again beholding the brand’s latest news, a couple of jaw-dropping Street Triples primed to dominate the track and the road.

Both the Street Triple 765 RX and Street Triple 765 Moto2 Edition have my attention, but the latter really pops. Here’s why.

Record-breaking pedigree

It makes all the sense in the world for Triumph to do a Moto2-inspired bike, considering the brand is the exclusive engine supplier to the FIM Moto2 World Championship.

That association has pushed performance to new heights, as these race-tuned 765cc triples have powered their riders to major milestones, including a top speed of 186 mph, 76 race lap records, 89 all-time lap records and well over a million miles covered in race conditions.

The start-up screen serves as a reminder this is one special bike. So does the individual numbering on the top yoke.

Honoring those achievements is an eye-popping naked bike that’s a road and track superstar in its own right — and so exclusive it’s limited to 1,000 units worldwide, with just 150 headed to the USA and 15 to Canada.

From an aesthetic perspective, the bikes get a number of unique race-inspired details, including an individually numbered billet-machined top yoke plus lightweight carbon fiber side panels, front mudguard, belly pan and silencer end cap.

A number of Moto2 details — including the embossing on the seat — fly nicely under the radar.

The actual Moto 2 branding is for the most part refreshingly discreet, as evidenced by the Moto2-embossed seat, laser-etched logo on the silencer and a TFT display featuring a Moto2-branded start-up screen.

The bike as a whole gets a Mineral Grey and Crystal White paint scheme set off by a vibrant Triumph Performance Yellow rear subframe and matching rear wheel stripe — just enough race vibes to show it means business.

Backing it up

Beyond the looks are a number of key performance features engineered to live up to the bold visuals.

Of course the beating heart is the accurately named engine, a 765cc liquid-cooled, inline 3-cylinder making 128 horsepower at 12,000rpm and 59 lb-ft of torque at 9,500rpm, optimized for a snappy throttle response and adrenalized acceleration.

The accolades this 765cc engine has accrued give you no excuse not to burn rubber on road and track.

Premium Brembo brakes keep that roaring beast under control while Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP V3 tires ensure exceptional traction.

Complementing those elements is a bevy of rider-friendly tech, including a dedicated ABS Track mode, Optimized Cornering ABS and Traction Control, plus Triumph Shift Assist for smooth clutch-free gear changes.

Unique to the Moto2 and RX editions are two upgrades that make them even more formidable.

The first is Öhlins NIX30 front suspension featuring adjustable compression and rebound damping, preload adjustment and 4.5 inches of wheel travel.

The second is sport clip-on handlebars, which shift the ergonomics, encouraging a more engaged, race-adjacent posture for, Triumph says, “even more spirited riding.”
