The Kings of Titanium EDC Just Revolutionized Another Fundamental Tool, and They Can Take My Money

A just-launched Kickstarter project is raking in the funds for what looks to be yet another immaculately engineered game changer.

“We believe tools should never stand in your way. They should be an extension of your will — appearing silently when needed, helping you solve problems with precision and grace, then disappearing again as if they were never there.”

This early passage from the latest Kickstarter project from Titaner might seem, oh, what’s the word, high-fallutin’ at a glance.

But once you process the challenge these mad scientists are tackling — a better way to engage with all the awkward, hard-to-reach, seemingly impossible screws we encounter with various projects — you begin to appreciate this lofty mission.

The only thing more impressive, really, is Titaner’s solution. Meet “The World’s Tightest-Swing EDC Ratchet System.”

Ratcheting up

I’m glad they tacked “System” onto the product name, because once you get past the base product, we are very much talking about a multi-piece set, as seen in the photo above.

However, the EDC Ratchet-Basic is notable in its own regard, as this unit addresses a major problem with many ratcheting tools.

When working in incredibly tight spaces, where only micro twists are possible and/or advisable, the backlash of operation can return the screw right back to the starting point, getting you nowhere.

Pushing the limits of R&D, the Ratchet System Core features an internal mechanism with a minimum swing arc of just four degrees

Titaner calls it “the tightest in the world for a tool of its kind,” and based on their impressive track record, I’m in no position to doubt.

The result is the equivalent of surgical precision when it comes to tightening (or loosening) screws in the most confined of spaces.

Essentially, the heart and soul of the operation, the Core is an engineering marvel. Thanks to a dual-lock gear mechanism, it delivers 100% power transfer, meaning every ounce of sweat-inducing effort you invest manifests in focused, functional torque.

This despite the tough-as-nails GR5 titanium unit weighing a mere 29.8 grams, just over an ounce.

Modular magic

As handy as the EDC Ratchet-Basic is on its own, the possibilities really open up with the Ratchet System-Pro.

This kit essentially adds a variety of accessories to the Core that tap into seemingly endless possibilities. I’ll run through some of the highlights, complete with complementary GIFS, below.

The most fundamental accessories are the four extension bars that can be attached to the Core’s four ports in a variety of configurations to tackle a range of challenges.

For example, attach one or two out bars to either side of the Core and you can significantly boost torque to manhandle even the rustiest or creakiest of screws.

You can also set the unit up in an L shape to access tight and even cornered spaces, or extend all four pieces out in a line to create an extended lever with maximum torque.

Lining them all up in an I-formation also enables you to create a super-long screwdriver for accessing deep holes.

When you need a bit of targeted oomph to get the job done, you can place two bars on either side of Core and add the Gyro-Stabilizer Cap.

This accessory enables you to apply controlled pressure in delicate situations without the risk of stripping or overtightening.

These key pieces, as well as a dozen of the most commonly used S2 steel bits and the Core itself, all pack neatly into a hockey puck-sized storage unit Titaner calls the Pocket Performance Module.

It uses magnets for a super solid and satisfying stashing process.

This mothership gets in on the action, too, thanks to Pro Max Mode, by which you can use it as a super-sized high-torque handle.

Did I mention it’s also a fidget spinner?

Don’t know about you, but I’m this close to just giving Titaner my routing number.

Availability and pricing
