While the knife and multi-tool industry is so prolific that we publish robust roundups pretty much weekly, the reality is that the vast majority of designs come and go pretty quickly.
Only a handful of silhouettes survive to see spinoffs extending out across the years, children and grandchildren carrying precious DNA with timeless appeal.

Residing effortlessly in that hallowed category is Böker’s Urban Trapper. Designed by Brad Zinker and in production since at least 2015 (when we first covered it), the brand’s most popular gents’ knife is currently available in 9 different varieties.
The latest still manages to tread into uncharted territory, as the Urban Trapper NXT is so far the only edition to offer automatic deployment.
Speedy steel
Let me say right off the bat that I wrestle with calling this deployment mechanism “controversial.”
As GP exec editor Jack Seemer has pointed out to me, auto knives are arguably no more dangerous than kitchen knives, which account for the majority of stabbings.
