Oris has kicked off 2026 quite fittingly with a new watch dedicated to the upcoming Chinese New Year.

Chinese New Year-themed watches have become en vogue throughout the industry in recent years, but Oris has been more creative with its efforts than most of its competition.

For example, last year, for the Year of the Snake, Oris produced a new version of its ProPilox X that ranks among the best watches the brand has ever produced. For 2026’s Year of the Fire Horse, Oris has once again come up with a seriously impressive watch to commemorate the dawn of a new Lunar Year.

Galloping into 2026

The Oris Artelier Year of the Horse Limited Edition resurrects the brand’s Artelier Calibre 113, which debuted back in 2017 but had since been discontinued. Like the brand’s other in-house manually wound movements, the Cal. 113 boasts a monster 10-day power reserve tracked via a non-linear power reserve indicator.

What sets the Calibre 113 apart is its unique “business calendar” complication. A robust evolution of Oris’s flagship pointer date function, the business calendar displays the date and day of the week on separate windows on the dial, while a fourth hand tracks both the month and 52 weeks of the year around the dial’s periphery.

For the Year of the Horse, the dial is a deep burgundy with light red printing and two subdials displaying the running seconds and power reserve. The subdials have been given a fiery red gradient treatment and grained texture that’s quite a unique combination. It almost looks like two glowing eyes peering out from the center of the dial, and I quite like the effect.

The dial features two horse images on the dial indicating whether the power reserve is at full strength or out of juice.

Another detail I enjoy is the horse images on the dial. A small but fun design touch, there’s a depiction of a galloping horse at the top of the 10-day power reserve meter, indicating that the watch is at its full strength. A horse at rest appears at the bottom of the indicator, whimsically informing the wearer that it’s time to wind the watch.

The handset and dial furniture are the same thin, refined designs seen on previous versions of the Oris Artelier Calibre 113, but they’ve been given a gold-toned finish here that matches well with the red dial for a regal appearance.

There are sapphire crystals front and back, and the water resistance remains a respectable 50m. Bringing it all together is the dark brown leather strap, which is fittingly made from shell cordovan, AKA fancy horse hide. It’s equipped with a stainless steel deployant clasp.

Powering the watch is the impressive in-house Calibre 113 movement, featuring a 10-day power reserve and unique business calendar complication.

Pricing and availability

Like last year’s Year of the Snake, the Year of the Horse is positioned near the top of Oris’s lineup thanks to its premium in-house movement, novel complications and gorgeous dial. That means it’s decidedly more expensive than most of the brand’s catalog at $8,000, though that’s actually 100 bucks cheaper than Oris’s only other current model using this movement, the Calibre 113 Big Crown.

The watch is also a limited edition and is limited to just 88 pieces. 8 is traditionally considered a lucky number in China, so 88 was chosen for its “double luck” significance. It’s available now from Oris.
