A Beloved Budget-Friendly Brand Drops an Affordable, Impressively Equipped EDC Utility Knife

Knafs’s new Yuti reached fully funded status on Kickstarter in just 17 minutes. But there’s still time to get one yourself.

My appreciation for Knafs is no big secret. From the brand’s endeavor to create the “ultimate starter knife” to how it transformed its most popular knife into a super-small keychain folder, Knafs just hits a unique sweet spot in the EDC world.

Now, that trend continues with the Knafs Yuti, a project that sees the brand’s familiar design language pared into its first-ever utility knife.

The knife carries and operates like an EDC knife, but it has a replaceable razor blade instead of a traditional one.

Utilitarian EDC

Those who know Knafs well should find some familiar ground in the Yuti. While it doesn’t share the same naming convention, it’s undoubtedly inspired by the brand’s fan-favorite Lander — ultimately, the basis for the brand’s entire catalog.

This is most obvious in the handle. It’s not an exact one-to-one copy, but some shared elements stand out. For starters, its scales are G-10 — an EDC classic and a standard material employed by Knafs.

It also has a crossbar lock. This mechanism has been featured in numerous versions of the Lander. And that makes sense; it’s sturdy, reliable, ambidextrous and a fan-favorite around the EDC world.

Similarly, it also has a reversible pocket clip — another standard feature across the Lander series of folding knives. And yes, with its thumb stud deployment, that does make this knife fully ambidextrous.

Of course, there are also some significant differences on the other end of the knife…

Travels well

While all other Lander knives feature an integrated, more traditional blade, this one sees that element eschewed entirely. In its place, Knafs has affixed the Yuti with a stainless steel utility blade housing.

That means this knife is compatible with all standard utility blades — more commonly known as razors. It’s also compatible with other styles of blades that fit into other standard utility knife housings, like hook blades.

These are just a few of the handle options.

Perhaps obviously, that also means they are removable and replaceable. Knafs has employed a screw-style wheel that can be loosened to release the blade and tightened again, once it’s replaced. By removing the blade, it also makes the Yuti travel-friendly and safe to bring through TSA checkpoints (you’ll just need to buy a razor at your destination to get it back in working order.)

Altogether, the knife is the perfect blend of EDC convenience and style with utility-focused cutting power. And that’s to say nothing of the wealth of available handle styles.

Pricing and availability

The Knafs Yuti is already fully funded on Kickstarter (it actually achieved funding in just 17 minutes,) so it’s definitely going into production.

However, there’s still plenty of time to score one for yourself, starting at just $50.
