Barbour has been crafting iconic waxed canvas outerwear for an impressive 132 years.

Yet, through its Lunar New Year capsule celebrating the Year of the Horse, the brand draws on more than 3,000 years of Chinese tradition, layered into already well-established designs.

Barbour teamed up with London-based Chinese designer Feng Chen Wang for a collaborative collection that merges Eastern mysticism with classic British design, resulting in a jacket that is as timeless as it is modern.

Modern tradition

Part of a capsule that includes two jackets and a selection of apparel, the Barbour x Feng Chen Wang Porter Waxed Jacket is the standout piece in the first-time partnership, deftly demonstrating the influence of both cultures while remaining unique in its style.

The waxed canvas jacket retains much of what makes Barbour great — a corduroy collar and tartan inner cuffs make an appearance — but also brings in new elements to elevate the everyday staple.

Stylistic updates include asymmetrical paneling across the chest and sleeves, with the dark maroon detailing standing out purposefully from the 6-ounce Sylkoil contrast waxed fabric.

The focused color palette drawn from the Lunar New Year was chosen to reflect good fortune and growth.

The multi-pocket design includes embroidery depicting the Dragon Horse (Long Ma), a mythical creature in traditional Chinese literature that represents vitality and energy — and amplifies the traits inherent to the Year of the Horse.
