Two things the Detroit-based brand whose name is short for West, East, South, North is great at: building awesome EDC knives and teaming up with other cool shops on sweet limited-edition releases.

Both of these superlative qualities are on display with WESN’s latest news: a collaboration with Toronto-based silversmiths Clocks + Colours on darkly dazzling treatments of two fundamental flippers.

While the Microblade revamp is distinctive, it’s the fresh take on the Allman that really catches the eye.

Blacked-out beauty

It is worth noting right off the bat that everything that has made the Allman so beloved is retained here.

The new knife boasts the same 2.8-inch drop-point blade made of S35VN steel, valued for its blend of hardness, toughness, edge retention and corrosion resistance.

It also features a tip-up pocket clip, a snappy flipper and a mechanism you only find in more premium editions of the knife — a frame lock.

The blade boasts a PVD coated black and stonewashed treatment, while the handle is made of blacked-out stainless steel adorned with a carbon fiber inlay.

Where it primarily differs is with the looks, which turn to the dark side in the best possible way.

The WESN logo is visible on the display side of the blade, while the Clocks + Colours branding is quite subtle, emblazoned on the main screw on which the blade pivots.

If there’s one trade-off here, it’s that at 4.6 ounces, the new edition tips the scales at roughly an ounce more than Allmans with G10 or titanium handle scales.

But hey, for those who bet on black, the aesthetic upgrade is well worth its weight.

Availability and pricing

Limited to 500 units, the WESN × Clocks + Colours Allman will be available for $249 beginning January 15th at 11 a.m. EST.

The WESN × Clocks + Colours Microblade will be available at the same time for $129.
