This Funky New Rum Is Too Intense to Be Served on Its Own

Planteray has launched the world’s “heaviest” rum. What exactly does that mean? Well, we’re not talking about weight, but rather intensity of flavor. Certain rums, namely English-style rums traditionally distilled in Jamaica and Barbados, have very high ester counts. Esters are aromatic molecules formed during the fermentation process, and they are responsible for the distinct “funk” or “hogo” flavor associated with high-ester rums. The ester count of the Barbadian Hogo Monsta is unprecedented, clocking in at a whopping 2,029 grams per hectoliter. That makes this 113.2-proof rum far too intense in flavor to sip on its own, and Planteray recommends adding just a few drops to transform a cocktail.

For generations, button-up shirts have remained largely the same. Rimowa has added a new color to its core lineup for the brand’s Classic luggage range. All Classic sizes will now be available in Rimowa’s signature anodized titanium hue (although they will still be constructed from aluminum). The new variant is available with black leather handles and chrome hardware, and is featured in three sizes: the Classic Cabin, Classic Classic Trunk and Classic Check-In L. With the launch of the RZR Pro R Ultra Edition, Polaris has introduced the industry’s first factory-integrated electronically controlled locking sway bar links. In practice, this means that the UTV’s DYNAMIX DVS Suspension System features four active sway bar links that can be adjusted through three selectable driver modes — Semi-Active, Locked and Unlocked — to ensure a more optimized response across varying terrain. For instance, in Semi-Active mode, it can lock and unlock up to 200 times per minute. Beyond the trick new components, though, Polaris has also given the Ultra Edition exclusive styling and upgrades. In addition to a limited-edition Velocity Blue hue, it comes with custom GatorStep accents and a new MPI Racing wheel. Just 500 examples are set for production, a total that represents both two- and four-seat configurations.
