When it comes to the classic, ruggedly handsome style of the British countryside, few brands are as synonymous with that aesthetic as Barbour.
And if you’ve been eyeing the brand’s timeless outerwear but balking at the price, now might be your moment. Barbour has just dropped the price on its Lorden Waxed Mac in a compelling grey colorway that effortlessly straddles the line between urban officeware refinement and country charm.
Barbour’s riff on a rival’s icon

While Barbour has built its reputation on waxed canvas jackets with heritage dating back more than a century, the mac coat actually belongs to another long-standing UK-based outerwear brand.
The Scottish label Mackintosh invented the mac coat back in 1824, when chemist Charles Macintosh (yes, his last name was spelled differently) pioneered a revolutionary method for waterproofing cotton using rubberized fabric.
This innovation gave birth to the now-iconic raincoat style that bears his name, as well as a long-standing rival outerwear brand known for both its blend of traditional silhouettes, classic materials, and premium price points.

Barbour’s Lorden Waxed Mac represents the brand’s waxed canvas interpretation of that classic silhouette.
Instead of Macintosh’s rubberized cotton approach seen in designs like the Dunkeld, Barbour applies its own signature details: a tartan lining that nods to Scottish heritage, a sophisticated corduroy collar, concealed button fastening, and two front welt pockets with tartan trim. The result is a longer-length coat that combines the refined urban aesthetic of a traditional mac with Barbour’s rugged countryside credibility.
