When Panerai began making watches for the Royal Italian Navy in the 1930s, providing an increased power reserve to preserve the integrity of the crown was a primary concern. It led to the 8 Giorni, meaning “eight days” in Italian, a mechanical movement that provided just over a week of power.
Nearly a century later, the Italian watchmaker is still pushing the limits of mechanical power reserve and has just raised the bar with a mind-blowing 31-day reserve.

Watches and Wonders Geneva: Rolex, Grand Seiko and dozens of other heavy hitters gather in Switzerland every year to release their biggest watches. Catch up on all the new novelties.
Fittingly named the Luminor 31 Giorni, this addition to the brand’s flagship dive watch collection only has to be wound 12 times per year. It comes in a fittingly impressive package, featuring a 44mm-wide Goldtec case with a rose gold hue and a satin-brushed finish.
The skeletonized dial reveals a top view of the mechanical marvel powering the characteristic central hour and minute hands, with a small seconds astride at 9:00.
Goldtec-framed hour markers with white lume inlays are fastened to the rehaut and float above the dial.
