With its legendary shock-resistance modules, penchant for rock-solid constructions and long history of rugged innovation, G-Shock has earned the mantle of Japan’s most formidable watch brand.

But toughness alone doesn’t always make a watch worth having. Sometimes it needs a helping hand from some eye-catching styling.

Maybe that’s why the brand has just dropped the G-Shock Black and Electro Green Collection, which features five of the brand’s most popular watches in a military-tactical, radar- and night-vision-inspired color scheme.

Splinter cell

While all five of the watches in the collection vary in numerous ways, both stylistically and functionally, they do share some common threads.

Namely, they all use the same color scheme. The watch bodies themselves are largely blacked out, with only minor contrast to the hands and dial markers (and some watches have minimal green text somewhere).

The watches themselves are largely blacked out, but the digital displays are done up in green, giving these watches a radar-like tactical military vibe.

Similarly, all five of the watches have Electro Green digital displays. It’s a combination that immediately evokes the classic look of old-school military radar or blacked-out tactical gear, like night-vision goggles (as worn by Sam Fisher in Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell games).

All the watches are also good for depths of 200 meters, feature resin (or resin-and-carbon) case construction and come with matching resin straps.

Party of five

There’s a lot of variety to be found in this collection. All five of the watches are pretty different from one another, not just in style and function, but in price.

For instance, the most affordable of the bunch (but, let’s be honest, they’re all affordable) is the GD-010BEG-1JF, which has a fully digital dial display. This watch costs just ¥14,850, which is about $94 USD.

On the other end of the spectrum, there’s the GA-B010BEG-1AJF, which is ¥27,500 (or $174). Price-wise, that’s a pretty big jump, but it’s still highly affordable comparatively. While the GD-010BEG-1JF has a standard quartz movement and a basic feature set, this one boasts Tough Solar tech for more convenient charging and a huge array of features (like a pedometer, fitness training functionality and more).

However, the likely fan favorite is probably the GA-B2100BEG-1AJF. Lovingly dubbed the ‘CasiOak’ by fans, this octagonally cased watch is among G-Shock’s most refined, and yet it still boasts the same legendary durability the brand is known for.
